Minnesota Department of Health Gold Standard RRNC Pilot Program
In the 2007 legislative session there was a law passed that requires Radon Resistant New Construction (RRNC) to be added to the state building code; this code will begin to be implemented in 2008. Minnesota does not regulate radon activities so the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) maintains a list of contractors that meet their standards. MDH does this because they have no authority to ensure contractors are doing good work. MDH will continue to promote and refer contractors that meet their expectations and do good work.
Currently, the Minnesota Department of Health is launching a new program for RRNC homebuilders. This program encourages builders to build to the MDH Gold Standard for RRNC and not to be just a code compliant builder. This program is also open to remodelers who may be doing a tear-down rebuild.
